Horticulture Preview
The Schedule for our fall Flower Show is underway and will be posted in its entirety soon, but for those members starting seeds indoors or heading to the nursery, here is a list of plants that will be included in the Horticulture Division. You must be in possession of any plant material you enter for a minimum of ninety (90) days, except as noted below. With the exception of Collections and Combination Plantings, all sections offer the opportunity to submit “any other worthy specimen." Information about specific exhibits (quantity based on size, number of stems, etc.) will be included in the Flower Show Schedule.
Annuals Grown for Flowers
Salvia, Marigold, Zinnia.
Annuals Grown for Foliage
Dusty Miller, Coleus, Persian Shield.
Flowering Herbaceous Perennial
Aster, Conefl ower, Sedum.
Perennials Grown for Foliage
Fern, Alumroot, Hosta.
Woody Shrubs (Must have been in the exhibitor's possession for a minimum of six (6) months).
Virginia sweetspire, Oakleaf hydrangea, Witch alder.
Rose
Floribunda, Hybrid Tea, Shrub Rose.
Flowering Bulbs, Corms, Rhizomes, Tubers
Tuberous Begonia, Canna, Dahlia.
Vegetables
Pepper, Squash, Tomato.
Herbs
Rosemary, Salvia, Thyme.
Collections: A collection of Dahlias, Herbs or Coleus. Each exhibit requires one cut stem of five different varieties or cultivars of the plant.
Combination Plantings: A Dish Garden: A Miniature Desert, Woodland, or Tropical Landscape of three (3) or more botanically different plants with similar cultural requirements in an open, low-volume, shallow container measuring 12” maximum diameter and 4” maximum height. Natural accessories permitted. (Must have been in the exhibitor's possession and growing together for a minimum of six (6) weeks).
